She was an unusual ant, truly one of a kind.  Born in a dump toxic waste eventually mutated her.  Learning English from coarse trashmen varied her vocabulary.  They weren’t all bad and rather amusing.  But compound life grew strained.  She became a disconnected colonist.  Like Star Trek’s Seven.  Finally she left.  Eyes forward.  Exploring.

Before you are wowed by my amazing intellect let me warn you that two weekends ago HT went to a short writing workshop.  Short because it was only three hours and because it was all about short fiction.  HT is also short perhaps this is why short-shorts, flash, or quick fiction intrigues her so much.  She has many other short features, personality speaking; short fuse, short attention, short memory, but enough about her instead prepare for my short story.

I’m pretty proud of myself considering I made HT write it down while she was driving.  That is until I realized her short fingers couldn’t handle a pen, paper and steering wheel at once.

This bitter earth is full of dirty and apathetic people.  They walk around with their hands to their ears.  Talking on the phone oblivious to what’s near.  Watch your step you clodding, graceless fools.  Don’t you see ants beneath you?  Treat us with some respect.  Otherwise you may regret.  When uprisings ensue.  Death. (to you- okay that is cheating

“Eliza, how can you put a happy face at the end of your little story that sounds like a bit from an old B horror movie!”

I may be a mutant ant but only my humanoid translator finds me pesky.  Here are seven examples of her murderous intent, all of which failed miserably.

“Eliza Leigh, you’re exaggerating like usual.  I only tried four of those.”

Let that be a lesson to all you ant killers and remember we out number you!

Many months ago, HT got her timing right (this is very rare) and started following Chris Eliopoulos (Cartoonist i.e. Misery Loves Sherman) on Twitter in time to get a drawing done.  Since she was able to get anything drawn, naturally she chose me.

“Not that I had a choice, I really wanted to ask if he could draw a reflexology treatment.”

Boring and stop squinting.

“I can’t help it, it’s from all the ocular eye shots I’ve been taking lately. Anyone have any eye shots they’d like to share so my poor beady eyes can take a break?”

What happened to your last victim? I mean volunteer?
