HT is home on her day off sick and lazy so I allowed her to poke around on Pinterest. No this won’t be a post about the highs and lows of the addictive site but a look at one board she really likes.

We fell down a magic rabbit hole into one Pinner’s ideas of Wonderland. If only HT wasn’t wearing her Mario pi’js but this glamorous vintage dress from melsvanity instead we wouldn’t have stuck out so much. “Who doesn’t stick out in Wonderland?” HT, you NEED to get glammed up when you’re invited to a Mad Tea Party everyone knows that!

After a long rambling walk down the singing tree lane we heard people talking, laughing and having so much fun. 1

A tea party! Just what you’d expect. “The board was called Wonderland Eliza. I’m pretty sure tea has a lot to do with the story.” Tea is just what poor, sick HT needed. She tried Chamomile, Linden, Valerian… “Hey those are all sleepy teas!” Oh what a strange conicidence! Tea with honey, tea with cream, tea with Nyquil the combinations were so exhausting! “What! Did you drug me Eliza…. zzzzzz!”

Peace and quiet at last! Click on Lexie’s Wonderland board for more inspiration. I’m off to raid the kitchen while HT sleeps and have a mad party of my own!

Here are a few posts from last month that tickled my fancy.

Photography

Sometimes it is as simple as this post by Scott Bourne-> How to “LOOK” at a photograph.

Enjoyed this interview of Bailey & Banjo on pet photography at Through the Lens of Kimberly Gauthier and am curious if they’d take a picture of my pet.

“Eliza, you don’t have any pets.”

But I have you human.

Words

Found this blog, Instapoem. You write a poem in five minutes using daily prompt. Sounds like fun. 1

Here’s a roundup post by Nathan Bransford that taught me things. Two of them:
He has a forum & there is a REAL John Locke! 2

I saw the movie Cowboy’s and Aliens. Liked it but I went in with no expectations. This post broke it down from a writers viewpoint. Read it.

Pop Culture

James Taylor is offering free guitar lessons. 3 Now if only HT didn’t break hers.

“I didn’t break it- you gave it to your termite friends.”

You told me to be a good hostess.

A DIY from U Create 4

Learn to make your own tee’s with your favorite movie quote or saying. HT what would your shirt say?

“I saw something nasty in the woodshed.”

You need help.

A movie within a movie, a dream within a dream…

Conventions and fan signings became the norm for the cast of the canceled sci-fi show Galaxy Quest that ended in the early 1980’s. In fact, Galaxy Con and other appearances were the only type of gigs they could get. Dissatisfied and more than a little disgusted with Jason Nesmith the glorified egomaniac who played Commander Taggert the film opened with the cast in a rut.

Now this movie came out a long time ago… but you may not have seen it so I’m going to try to keep my spoilers down to a minimum. We watched the “standard” DVD and missed the previews so we’ll skip that part of the review. Incidentally I added the 2009 Deluxe Edition to my Amazon wish list so when I do get that version I’ll be sure to check out all the goodies on there.

This ensemble film was full of action, hilarity and hijinks. Okay, so it was also a loving spoof of Star Trek. When the cast get accidentally mixed up in real alien drama that could have been straight from their show they have to remember how to work together if they want to get back to Earth.

The original five cast/crew members were played by Tim Allen, Alan Rickman, Sigourney Weaver, Tony Shalhoub and Daryl Mitchell. Sam Rockwell had been a short lived extra on the cancelled show but tags along for the outer space adventure and had some of the funniest lines in the whole movie. Just check out this Video of the Week for some of his hysterical parts.

We can’t forget the aliens; after all these six humans are unwittingly the key to ending the evil and sadistic Sarris’ destruction of the naive but brilliant Thermians. Mathesar, the Commander of the Thermians said it best, “You are our last hope.” The problem is the Thermians believe the show was real and that the crew of the NSEA Protector is insanely talented, brave heroes. Enrico Colantoni, Patrick Breen, Jeb Rees and Missi Pyle play Thermians while Robin Sachs is the bug-like Sarris.

The action is fast, follows the Star Trek formula perfectly (especially the scene where the Commander manages to become shirtless) and it makes complete sense. That is if you wonder where the vulnerable spots are on a Rock Monster! A young Justin Long plays an obsessed fan that without him and his friends the crew from the Protector would never had a chance at a sequel.

If you grew up watching Star Trek then you’ll really love all the nods to the franchise. Even if you’ve never really gotten into grownups in velour/spandex jumpsuits traveling in space let Galaxy Quest take you on a funny, family friendly adventure that will have you hoping they’ll make a sequel too!
